Hello All,

We hope this message finds you all well.  It has been brought to our attention by the great people over at WebHostingTalk.Com that AOL has made a drastic change in the already strict mail filters that govern over the AOL network (@aol.com @netscape.net @cs.com address')

The new filtration that they have implimented has begun blocking email that contain one of the following address' in the headers of the email:

nobody@, httpd@, apache@, sender@, www@, root@

This is a rather big deal that can dramatically effect you the clients and visitors alike. This block is dangerous due to the way PHP scripts run by default on servers. PHP scripts such as contact forms, shopping cart systems and any other kind of php script that sends out email, run on the server as the user 'nobody'. When the form is filled out and the email is sent, the from address may be valid, but in the header of the email message it actually sends the message out as nobody@servername.com (see example below).

AOL will pick up on this nobody@ in the headers of the message and fail to deliver it without warning. This means any visitors to your website that fill out the contact form with an email address that would fall within the AOL network, will likely not recieve the email from this form. You should keep this thread in mind when you are troubled by complaints from AOL clients not getting your message.

AOL has yet to officially confirm this, however members of our support team here as well as the folks from WebHostingTalk.Com have tested this out and confirmed this.

We certainly apologize for any inconvience this may cause for you and your clients as a result of AOL's decision.

You may see the orginal WebHostingTalk thread on this at the link below.
