Hello All,

We would like to inform all of our customers of some very serious security concerns that appear with older versions of the very popular free ads software 'phpAdsNew'.

As of recent there has been a rise in attacks against some of our clients that happen to be running older insecure versions of this software. This is obvious something of great concern to us it ultimately affects the stability and the security of our servers which we take great efforts to keep up.

We would ask that any and all versions of this software installed by yourself or your clients be upgraded to the latest secure version (2.0.Cool which has the security holes corrected.

Instructions listed below:

Quote
1. Download ZIP file from link below:
http://easynews.dl.sourceforge.net/sourcef...dsNew-2.0.8.zip
2. Unzip file onto your computer
3. Create a new directory: "phpadsnew_update" inside your public_html folder on the server.
4. Upload the new files into this directory.
5. Copy over from your current working copy of phpadsnew the file: "config.inc.php".
6. CHMOD the directory "cache" so it has write permissions, 777.
7. Make a backup copy of the DB.
8. Then rename your working directory of phpadsnew to, "phpadsnew_old".
9. Then rename your "phpadsnew_update" to the old working directory.
10. Log in to the admin control panel and follow the upgrade instructions.

# Note: If you save your banner images to a folder on the server, make sure you copy over that directory too.

# Note: Keep the older files on the server for at least two weeks in case you need to revert back to the older files for some reason. After the two weeks, you can remove them from the server.

The upgrade process can be quite tedious at times, so if you should need any assistance or run into any problems during this process, please do let us know and we will be happy to help.

Warmest Regards,
Mark,
WebHSP Support Team.
